You want to clean up the clutter, get organized, but when?\u00a0 You sigh in surrender and utter \u201cI don\u2019t have the time\u201d.<\/p>\n

With life continuously speeding up — less staff doing more in the workplace, commutes of an hour or more, children that need to be fed and driven to various activities — it\u2019s no wonder that clutter takes over in our homes.<\/p>\n

Yet, keeping an organized home makes every day run much more smoothly, and saves time in the long run.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Think about how many times you\u2019ve needed that piece of paper, and you searched for hours in frustration amidst piles of unorganized paperwork.<\/p>\n

Or you safely put away your favourite pair of sunglasses at the end of last summer.\u00a0 But where?<\/p>\n

There is a lot of merit to the old adage \u201cEverything has a place, and everything in its place\u201d.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to take a good look at the mess you want to get organized.<\/p>\n

Here is are some quick tips to get you started:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Choose one organization task.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you have a lot of messes to tackle, you won\u2019t be able to work on them all at once and see any progress.\u00a0 So, choose one.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Start small.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t touched your basement for a couple of years, the task of cleaning it up is probably very daunting.\u00a0 You feel like it will take you forever to get it organized.\u00a0 Go down to the basement, take a look around, and select one small area, or one box to sort through.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Book your time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Choose a time to work on your de-cluttering project, and book it into your calendar.\u00a0 It is now an appointment for you to keep.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Start with 5 minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The hardest part of getting something done is usually starting it.\u00a0 And if your time is already stretched, it\u2019s even more difficult.\u00a0 But 5 minutes is a manageable amount of time to find.\u00a0 Find that 5 minutes, and get started.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Get help. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Enlist your spouse, your kids, your friend or neighbour to help you with your organization task.\u00a0 A reward for all the hard work is always a great incentive \u2013 trip to the ice cream store, beer and pizza \u2013 whatever entices your crew to help you.<\/p>\n

And after you\u2019ve completed your organization task, be sure to pat yourself on the back.\u00a0 You deserve it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
